Support for professionals
We work alongside professionals and services supporting children, young people and families, offering specialist paediatric psychology input through referrals, consultation, supervision, staff support and teaching.
Our work is informed by experience across paediatric healthcare settings and focuses on the psychological impact of physical health conditions, medical treatment and healthcare experiences on children and their families.
-
We welcome referrals from professionals working with children, young people and families across health, education and other services.
If you would like to refer a child, young person, parent or family for psychological support, please complete the form at the bottom of this page, including some brief information about the reason for referral.
Before making a referral, please ensure that the parent/carer, and young person where appropriate, is aware of the referral and has agreed to their information being shared with Paediatric Psychology Clinic. Please only include information that is relevant to the referral.
We will then contact the family to discuss their needs, whether our service is the right fit, and the next steps.
-
We offer specialist psychological consultation to professionals and teams supporting children and families where physical health, medical treatment or healthcare experiences are affecting emotional wellbeing, adjustment or family life.
Consultation can provide a space to think together about a particular child or family, develop a psychological understanding of their needs, and consider approaches to supporting them within your service.
Consultation can be arranged as a one-off session or on an ongoing basis.
-
We offer supervision and reflective practice for professionals and teams working with children and families, particularly within health and healthcare-related settings.
Sessions provide a confidential space to reflect on complex clinical work, consider the emotional impact of the work on professionals and support psychologically informed practice.
We can offer individual or team-based sessions, either as a one-off or as part of an ongoing arrangement.
-
We provide bespoke teaching and training for teams and organisations working with children, young people and families.
Training can be tailored to the needs of your service and may cover areas such as supporting children through medical procedures, communicating with children about illness, managing distress and anxiety around healthcare or specific procedures, supporting parents and siblings, adjustment to chronic illness and psychologically informed approaches to paediatric care.
Sessions can range from focused workshops to longer training sessions and can be developed around the particular needs of your team.
-
Working with children and families in healthcare settings can be emotionally demanding, particularly following difficult clinical events, bereavements, periods of increased pressure or other challenging experiences within a team.
We offer staff support sessions for healthcare teams, providing a facilitated and psychologically informed space for colleagues to come together, reflect on their experiences and consider the impact of their work.
Sessions can be arranged in response to a particular event or period of difficulty, or as part of a wider approach to supporting staff wellbeing. We will work with you to understand your team's needs and agree an appropriate format for the session.
If you would like to arrange consultation, supervision, staff support or teaching, please get in touch using this form.
