About us
The Paediatric Psychology Clinic was founded by Dr Amelia Carton (DClinPsy, BSc). Amelia is an HCPC registered and BABCP accredited clinical psychologist with over 15 years supporting families within medical settings. Alongside The Paediatric Psychology Clinic she leads the Critical Care and Respiratory Psychology services at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital. Her work focusses on supporting children, young people and their families with the psychological impact of chronic and acute health conditions. She has previously worked with women and children at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, and University College London Hospital (UCLH).
Amelia has experience working across a range of medical teams, including with young people receiving paediatric and neonatal intensive care, as well as working with young people under a range of medical teams (including gastroenterology, neurology, metabolic, orthopaedic, respiratory, audiological and dermatology teams). She considers psychological distress in the context of the systems that the young person and their families are embedded within, such as their health team(s), school or community. She prides herself in tailoring all psychological intervention to the individual and their specific needs. She is experienced in working across the lifespan, co-creating a calm, therapeutic and non-judgemental space to work towards shared goals to improve wellbeing.
Amelia has completed additional training in a variety of evidence-based therapeutic approaches including Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, narrative therapy and systemic therapy.
She is fully registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council, which is the governing body for Clinical Psychologists in the UK. Her registration number is PYL37283.
